Donnie Bickham Middle School
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
August 2010

Summer is almost over, and the excitement for the 2010-
2011 school year is mounting.  If you’ve been by the
school this summer, you know that our building has been
cluttered with signs of progress:  our air conditioning
system is being upgraded and our office floors are being
replaced.  Additionally, new technology is continuing to
arrive and be installed daily.  To make sure this
technology will be effectively implemented to maximize
student achievement, our teachers have spent many
hours this summer in training.  Our goal is to insure that
our students leave middle school with the best hands-on,
technology experience in the state.  We were also
recently notified by CPSB that we would be receiving a
full-time gateway teacher for the 2010-2011 school year.
The reason for this new position, according to CPSB, is
that we have the fastest growing gateway program in the
parish, and they hope to see it continue to grow and be
successful.  Next, if your child lives in our community
and is currently registered at another school for the 2010-
2011 school year, it is not too late to register and attend
DBMS.  I often have parents contact me stating that they
made a rash decision in the spring concerning middle
school and would like to correct that mistake by enrolling
at DBMS.  When they contact the school at which they
were registered, they are often given the “run-around”
and/or told that they must attend that school for a year as
stated in their contract.  If that happens, please contact
me.  Community members have the right to attend their
community school, and I will do everything possible to
make sure that right is protected.  Finally, please make
sure you are checking our school website, www.
dbmspatriots.com, as often as possible to make sure you
and your child are up-to-date on what’s going on at
DBMS.  I hope you’ve had a great summer, and I can’t
wait to see you when school starts!
